New "UnNatural Selection" Paintings for Sale

The first three paintings of a new public art project I'm doing are completed and are now for sale. The finished project, mocked up below, will display giclee prints of original paintings created for the project. These originals will be for sale throughout the process to help fund the project. Click Here or on any of the images to see the prices and dimensions. You can email me at michael@coyart.com or call 707/829-9730 to arrange a purchase.

The project was conceived for Burning Man 2009 and beyond. The theme this year is "Evolution". The piece will be a large, rotating, "Exquisite Corpse" artwork comprised of 24 seperate images that can combine to form up to 512 variations of surreal creatures. The "Exquisite Corpse" idea of combining drawings or paintings from different sources came from the surealists in the last century. I've seen the idea used in childrens books and even ads but I have never seen one as a 15 foot tall sculpture with 8 rotating sides, featuring 8 foot tall images on each side. So here it is. Many of the paintings will stand on there own and utilize only partial sections, blown up for the final piece. Conceiving the ideas and painting these is has been a blast so far and I'll be sharing more with you as the summer progresses. A handful of other artists will be contributing paintings to the project and I'll post those when they arrive in a few months.

The finished project will also make an apperance at Santa Rosa's Great West End and Railroad Square Handcar Regatta and Exposition of Mechanical and Artistic Wonders on September 27th, 2009. Check out this amazing event.

If anyone would like to contribute to the project with funds or energy, please contact me with your thoughts.

Thanks.

Michael

The Shrine of Fortuna

Last year's Burning Man project, the Shrine of Fortuna was challenging, but it turned out great and was appreciated out on the playa. Thanks to Tony for the experience and to everyone who helped.
